ICON Caries Infiltration
ICON Caries Infiltration
Definition
Icon is a light-curing, low-viscosity-based methacrylate-based plastic, e.g. TEGDMA for minimally invasive caries therapy¹.
Advantages
- Sealing of tooth decay and thus halting progression.
- There are "ICON approximal" and "ICON vestibular".
Disadvantages
- Material is not X-ray opaque, for this an icon pass is required.
- Not repeatable at will.
- High-quality overlay-free bite wings needed for assessment.
Indications
- Carious lesion up to max. in outer dentin wall (D1) without cavitation.
Contraindications
- Inactive carious lesions.
- caries profunda.
- Carious lesions with cavitation.
- Root caries.
- Developmental defects.
- Erosions.
Infiltration steps¹
- ICON Etch (HCl) Hydrochloric acid for 2 min to disturb the pseudo intakt surface ( see Enamel Caries ), then spray 30 sec.
- Dry.
- Apply ICON Dry (ethanol) for 30 sec.
- ICON infiltrant (high liquid plastic) for 3 min.
- Light curing for 40 sec.
- Again ICON infiltrant for 1min.
- Light curing 40 sec.
- Remove surpluses.
